Roskilde in Denmark opens on 26 June as Glastonbury ends (main days 30 June – 3 July), with the same non-profit, all-genres ethos. Isle of Wight is the week before (17–20 Jun 2027). Boomtown in August captures the spirit, Latitude the arts. 11 genuine alternatives across the UK and Europe, with their 2027 dates.
"What's the alternative to Glastonbury?" is really several questions at once, because Glastonbury means different things to different people. For some it is world-class acts from a field you camp in. For others it is the theatrical, leftfield character no other UK festival quite replicates. For others still, it is five days with ten friends, which happens to have music.
Nothing replaces Glastonbury, because nothing is quite like it. But each festival below captures a real part of what makes it special. Roskilde is the closest in ethos and timing. Boomtown is the closest in spirit and theatre. Rock Werchter is the easiest abroad without flying.
Ordered by date, earliest first. Dates come from our festival database and update as festivals announce; where a festival hasn't announced 2027 dates yet, the card says so. Last updated 16 October 2026.

Open the Map →If you have some flexibility on travel, Roskilde is the most complete answer. It runs 26 Jun – 3 Jul 2027: the camping opens as Glastonbury ends, and the main music days are 30 June to 3 July. It is non-profit and charity-owned in the same way (proceeds go to the Roskilde Foundation's humanitarian projects), and its programme breadth (rock, hip-hop, electronic, jazz, world music) is the closest match in Europe to Glastonbury's all-genres philosophy. Copenhagen is half an hour away by train.
Isle of Wight (17–20 Jun 2027): the right timing, camping and multi-genre, but smaller and less adventurous. Latitude (22–25 Jul 2027): the same cultural philosophy, a fifth of the scale. Boomtown (11–15 Aug 2027): the theatrical, alternative spirit, heavier on drum & bass, reggae and punk. Green Man (19–22 Aug 2027): independent and beautiful, and it sells out fast too.
